My Work

Hiya! This year my dad offered me a job to be a receptionist at his company, of course I said yes... Anyway, I never knew how stressful the job could be! Yesterday when I was booking in job to be repaired, answering email and other stuff (guilty face) surfing Absolute Write, one of the people I worked with came and along and dumped twenty monitors in my office.
"What do you want me to do with these?" I asked, honestly, I think it would have been better not knowing the answer to that question.
"Oh, they are all from (some company name) Servicewest, you need to book them all in," I looked at him skeptically, was he serious.
So yeah, between booking jobs and booking in monitors I am also blogging... Not to mention we never get home on time. I don't see why everyone else leaves at 5 and we leave at 6. (groaning, customer walks in with several monitors as I am typing.)
"How many are you bringing in sir?"
"Oh about twelve..."
Yeah, so here I am having to book them all in... Yes, not to mention my dad just walked out the door saying "We'll sort this out," pointing to the twenty monitors... I don't think so! It just means more and more work for me... Anyway, that means I have to type a job card for each one... Plus I have a million emails to do and faxes and calls as well... Did I mention this was my first job; I never had a job as a check out chick like my best friends have, or a normal fast job... I guess I was scared I would suck at it. Then they would say "Celeste, you're fired!" Oh crap, its 11:48, that is not good... I still have to do so much... Anyway, there are good things about my job too. I work with my dad which means more bonding time, but there is no favouring me at all. He is the boss and I am "just" an employee... I feel so small at the moment. The other day I was booking in a customer's unit and I didn't know which extended warranty it was under, my dad stepped out and said,
"Don't worry about her," pointing vaguely to me, "She's my daughter, she's just a trainee," I groaned as the customer looked at me as if to say, pathetic sixteen year old doesn't know how to do her job. Now here I am on a Thursday and I'm all alone. Above me someone is filling out 12 job sheets! That is so unfair, in order to get the job card filled out with need
Model
Serial (looks like a barcode)
Customer name and details
Date of purchase
Proof of purchase
What the unit came in with
I have to also job label every part of it. For example Acer monitor needs a sticker on the base, top of screen and attachments such as cords, bags etc. This guy above me has 12 which means I won't be going to lunch again. My lunch is at 1:00 but since no one can watch reception I don't get lunch. But no one ever said I couldn't eat and work so I stick with that personally... My back is starting to hurt, I lean to close to the screen, I can see but it's just a stupid habit. Okay, this was my first post and I'm proud to say I'm a receptionist and loving it! (Even if my dad is the boss and I don't get lunch!) I'm off to work now...
Byexxx Celeste
